Presentation Exercise - Emil McAvoy
What is this show about?
The show documents a botanical view of Papakura and is a remembrance to the war. I would also consider this a tribute to the artists eye for organic beauty.
How many photos are in this show?
17
How much space is there between each photo?
How does this affect your viewing of the work?
Between the sets of photographs, there's about 2 inches, but between each set, perhaps about a meter. It creates resemblance between the photographs in the sets that I may not have noticed if they weren't together. For example, the leading lines in two photographs have a nice similarity that once you have seen it, you can't imagine it without the pairing.
What size/s are these photos?
How does this affect your viewing of the work?
The sizes are A4 portrait and A3 landscape to create a consistency throughout the height of the entire exhibition. The sizes were a little off putting in the sense that I had to look very closely at the images to see any details and I feel as though the exhibition would have benefitted from larger images.
What presentation method has been used?
How does this affect your viewing of the work?
The presentation was white-wood box framing and hung on the gallery walls. It creates a sense of entirety and completeness for each of the works as they look complete when they are framed. Aside from that, it didn't really affect my viewing of the artwork.
Are there any aspects of this presentation you would use when presenting your portfolio this term and if so, what are they?
Yes, I will try and pair some of my images together with similar compositional and/or photographical techniques.
