Digital Technology 1 Week 3 Colour Correction Exercises

Colour Correction Exercises

Flowers -
Grey Picker (Colour Correction)
I used the eye drop colour picking tool to select the neutral colour in the photograph so that the image could be colour corrected using the main neutral colour.

Landscape -
Colour Correction (using sliders)
I adjusted the temperature and tint sliders so that the image colouring had more blue/green tones in it. This helped bring out the colour of the water and greenery in the photograph. I also increased the exposure, contrast, highlights and whites sliders to add some more depth and colour to the image.

Landscape 2 -
Shadow Correction (using sliders)
For this image, I did a similar editing technique to the above image. I increased the exposure, contrast, highlights blacks and whites sliders to create a more contrasted look rather than the slightly under exposed tones it had originally. I also adjusted the temperature so that there were more blue tones in the entire image.

Muriwai -
Corrections (Contrast, Highlights, Clarity, Vibrance, Cropped to 1:1 ratio)
I increased the contrast, highlights, clarity and vibrance sliders to give the image a little more colour and life. I also cropped it to a 1:1 (square) ratio as per the worksheets request.

Beach Walk -
Corrections (Temperature, Contrast, Vibrance etc)
I took the temperature down a little bit in to the more yellow tones so that the sand could really be noticed and also the skin tones of the children as the subjects. I also increased the contrast and vibrance to really bring out the colours in the image.

Below is an example of an over exposed image from my shutter speed exercises and I attempted to fix it using the determined instructions written on the work sheet. As the image was too exposed originally, I took the exposure down a lot more and ended up with this result. I'm not too happy with it as I feel like it is now really grey. I consider this edit a mistake as I am not happy with the end result and I do not know how to fix and over exposed image.

Below is an example of an under exposed image from my shutter speed exercises that I attempted to make adjustments to using Adobe Bridge (As I have done with the image above).
I'm also not completely happy with how this image turned out (although I feel it has a better end result than the above editing attempt). I raised the exposure slider so there was slightly more light in the overall picture. I feel this doesn't quite make the cut though and I need to learn how to edit over and under exposed images properly.

After editing these images, I saved them for the web using the format on the work sheet we were given.

My favourite images this term edited are below:
I edited the images in Adobe Bridge to increase the contrast, exposure, highlights, shadows and other sliders so
that the images came out differently - exposing more detail and colours of the images.

The photograph is so simple and there isn't that much of a colour range so I made this image brighter by changing the contrast and exposure; I felt the colours in the image needed to be brought to life a bit more as well as the image having an overall lift. I also think that this editing has made the photograph look a little more balanced brings out the detail in the background and subject.

I really wanted to bring out my subjects eye colour and freckles (her natural beauty) so I lowered the contrast and exposure as this brought more natural colouring to the image. I also feel like the image was a little "colder" before I made these changes; I like how it brings a bit of warmth to her features and makes the lighting look a little less harsh.
