Digital Technology 1 - Week 3 Day 2 - Camera Raw Exercises

I did these exercises during Self Directed Time:

In this image, I experimented with the rotate tool in the Camera Raw section of Adobe Bridge.
This is an example of my work during the process of the method I prefer: (the crop tool)
I experimented with the straighten tool, the crop tool and automatic straightening and decided that this tool is the one I prefer. The class also watched a Tutorial on Lynda.com regarding these tools. I can't speak for the rest of the class, but I think the tutorials in general on Lynda.com really help with learning some of the necessary skills in Bridge.

In this image, I used the adjustment panel to darken the sky.
Below is before and after the same image using the following adjustment panels: the exposure, contrast, highlights and whites sliders were all slightly lowered. The shadows slider was set all the way up and the blacks slider was set a little higher to get the desired effect.
I like the result of this editing as it adds more depth and detail to the image. Once I edited the image, I saved it as a JPG so that it is compatible with the web.

I used the adjustment panel (exposure slider) to adjust the exposure of my subject while I left the background slightly underexposed.
I like the result of this editing as well because the background is really bright and now my subject is too. It really brings more detail to the photograph and it becomes easier to see my subject.

I used the adjustment panel to turn my background black and white but I left my subject in colour. The change of colour is very subtle because the original photo didn't have much colour in the background to begin with.
I like the outcome of the editing. I feel like it draws attention to the subject while also creating unintentional simplicity throughout the photograph.

I chose one portrait and one landscape photograph to edit using the HSL grey scale panel to convert them into black and white. The following "Before and Afters" are my work.

I like how Black and White image colouring creates a really simplistic style of image. I think because the first image has little colour in it anyway, it doesn't make that big of a difference but the second image, the difference is quite obvious. I personally prefer the second image in colour as I feel it makes the image more interesting to look at and I prefer the first image in either colour because the main focus is the lock and the colour of the photograph doesn't add much effect to it; in my opinion.
