Term 2 - Week 3 - Artist Research

Artist Research:

Karen Ishiguro:
This is his website.

I was recommended this artist model by my lecturer and I can't say I am disappointed by the photographs in relation to my theme. I love these photographs so much and it is the same way with a lot of my other artist models, I love their work without relating it to my portfolio theme. For these particular shots, I feel as though the photographer was focusing really intently on the natural beauty of the model. The black and white makes the portraits look very formal and I like this look for this shoot because of the models stature. I would like to experiment with poses like this for my model in my next shoot.

Gabe McClintock
I found him here

I love these photographs and even though these are intended as boudoir photography, I myself would never put my young models in this genre or would I put them in these types of exposed outfits. To me, this natural lighting is the best I've ever seen and that's the main aspect for my portfolio shoot that I am taking inspiration from. These photographs are incredibly natural and that is the goal I'm aiming for with my photographs.
McClintock (the photographer's) work is all such an inspiration to me not only for my theme but for my own work in general. When I read the article on McClintocks' work for this shoot, I was completely in awe at how similarly we thought in terms of our goal based on this quote:
"My goal is to show them that they are beautiful just as they are," said McClintock.

Google search: "beauty photography and natural light":

Obviously these have been edited rather intensely but the lighting is really flawless even the shadows the girls face in the second photo is beautiful. That type of shadowed lighting is definitely something I would like to try and emulate in one of my next two shoots. I think this will bring a unique feel to theme in the sense that it is something I have experimented with before but not in such a saturated sense as this imagery.
